To juice, or not to juice

Sara is one of my best friends and she lives in Seattle. Fortunately, we're able to see each other somewhat regularly...we just make it happen!

Last February, Sara flew out to Orange County, and we stayed in a hotel. We went out to dinner, went to a couple of bars, and stayed up ALL NIGHT chatting! So fun. One thing we talked about was juicing. I know...very exciting! But really, it is. Sara tried to convince me that people can live on juice alone, but man...I kind of like solid food!

Then in April, I was up in Seattle and hung out at Sara's house for one of the days. She decided she had had enough and made me watch "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead." If you haven't seen it, please watch it! Yes, it's another one of those food documentaries. It tells the science behind why juicing is better than just eating the vegetables (one being the fact that no one would or could eat all that food!) and also shares stories of people whose lives and health were completely changed by juicing. I was convinced that it was worth at least adding juice as a snack or even as breakfast.

When I got home, I went to a bunch of thrift stores looking for a juicer...they are SO expensive new, especially if you want one that will really last and work well. I found an ok one still in the box at a thrift store and then headed to the produce store. (If you have a Sprouts Market near you, check it out...they have great prices on produce.) So, Kyle and I made the basic green juice and it was...not bad. Actually quite refreshing. The juicer was a pain in the butt to clean. And it was really loud. Then it started leaking. And then it just crapped out all together. We wanted to get another one, a really good one, but just couldn't afford it. So, juicing was put on the back burner and then we moved and then we ate at In-n-Out instead. Haha!

When we watched Forks Over Knives, eating actual vegan food just seemed more manageable and less inconvenient than juicing. And, wow, you get to chew! Since I cook most of our meals from scratch anyway, it won't be much more work to just omit the meat from some recipes, add more veggies, and try some new ideas. At some point, I'd still like to get a nice juicer and do juice for breakfast or a snack. I'll keep my eyes peeled at the thrift store!
