Date night

Thursday was our date night and we had planned to use a gift card for Buca di Beppo. We were excited to go there because they actually have gluten-free options, which is difficult with Italian food. But after watching "the film" we knew that wasn't a good fit.

We decided to jump in with both feet and try out a raw restaurant. I looked on yelp for some ideas and found Go Raw Cafe. Everything they serve is vegan and gluten-free, so we knew we could order anything on the menu...that NEVER happens!

We were the only people in the restaurant at first, but I'm guessing they have a pretty decent lunch crowd since all the food is pretty light. When we saw the menu, Kyle said, "I wonder if you could add some meat to the salads" and then remembered where we were! Haha! Our server was helpful and answered all our questions. While we waited for our food, we looked through the small bookstore. They have all kinds of books about raw food, vegan recipes, fighting various diseases through diet, and of course all the new-agey yoga meditation stuff. They also had some packaged snacks and supplements.

We both decided to have collard green wraps. Kyle ordered the Mexican wrap which had tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lettuce, guacamole, and a "paste" made from nuts, beans, and spices. This was all wrapped up in collard green leaves, which neither of us had ever had raw (I think I've had them cooked once, but didn't care for them.) Kyle's came with a side of chips and salsa. The chips were made with flax seeds and were gluten free! I ordered the Mediterranean wrap which had hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, sprouts, olives, bell peppers, and lettuce and came with a side of tabouleh. Both of the wraps were really good and had a ton of flavor...there was nothing bland about them at all! We both left feeling satisfied and no longer hungry, but not stuffed. I think that's going to be one of the things we learn from eating this way...we will need to come up with a new definition of "full." It doesn't mean no longer being able to walk or breathe...it just means not being hungry any more.

Go Raw has a pretty large menu and also 2 locations, so I know we'll be back!
